About Us The Northern Massage Association is an organisation for professionals who are aware of the holistic dimensions of massage. Holistic massage is person centred and takes account of the view that mind, body & spirit are interconnected.
The association was established in 1990, by massage practitioners in the North of England. It seeks to give peer supervision, colleague support, directions for further training and opportunities for practice.
Aims of NMA:
to support in their practice through: contact with fellow practitioners, opportunities to share skills & experience, general meetings, massage exchanges & peer supervision, a code of ethics, support for the member & client, in the event of a complaint to maintain a high standards of holistic massage Full members do 18 hours Continuing Professional Development yearly. NMA runs half day, or full day workshops (at reduced rate for members) at weekends in Sheffield, or Leeds. to make the holistic approach widely known and give access to the public through: the NMA website, access to: Massage Training Institute (MTI) General Council for Massage Therapy (GCMT) Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)(regulator) policy development and interdisciplinary networking Becoming a Member Full
members have completed an approved full training course (150 hours)
in massage and are insured. Applicants are either sponsored by an
NMA member, or interviewed about their training and method of
working, or are graduates of Sheffield Centre for Massage training,
or Body-mind Therapeutics in Leeds.
Practitioner
can become members of the Massage Training Institute (MTI) at no
further cost to themselves.
Associate
members are qualified therapists who are not practising, but wish to
keep in contact with the massage world.
Students
doing a recognise course in massage can join free
